A green burial is similar to a burial in a cemetery - the difference is that a tree becomes the living memorial instead of a traditional headstone. The serene site at “Roucan Loch”, just over 3 miles from the centre of  Dumfries, overlooks tranquil waters, where abundant wildlife, calming birdsong and panoramic views of the rolling Nithsdale landscape offers the ideal setting in which to contemplate.

“Roucan Loch” Green Burial Site is unique in that it is the first green burial site in the country which has been pre-planned and planted with Native trees including: Scots Pine, Rowan and Birch. Gradually, over the years, the woodland will develop along with its population of birds and small mammals in a sustainable, eco-friendly way. The secluded site at “Roucan Loch” offers a natural final resting place,  which is an oasis of stillness and calm. “Roucan Loch” Green Burial Site is in effect a nature reserve providing  peace of mind for the family, as the site will remain a protected natural environment in perpetuity. “Roucan Loch”  is open daily - and you are invited to view this unique Green Burial Site at weekends between 10 am - 4 pm. No appointment is necessary, as you are free to experience for yourself the beauty of this precious gem. Situated 3 miles from Dumfries Town Centre, just off the A709 Dumfries to Lockerbie Road - Signposted “Roucan Loch”.
